PHOTOGRAPHING YOUR
BABY
Even if you feel like photographs
are too much or too overwhelming, you will treasure them and the memories
they hold in the future. They are priceless and may be the only photos
you have of your precious child. To aid you or someone you love through
the grief process, we strongly encourage you to take photos of your baby,
their little hands, feet, ears and every precious part of them.
Please visit the website below
for samples of the many beautiful memories that can be captured by a sensitive
and talented photographer free of charge!
www.nowilaymedowntosleep.com provides
free professional photographers to bereaved parents who will visit your baby
in the hospital, home or wherever you desire. These are priceless photos
that will be treasured forever. A dear friend who was with me throughout
my grief, Anne Schollenberger, has generously donated her time to take photos
for bereaved families through this organization primarily due to her love for
Kate and our family. Kate’s life touched her heart and life in a
special way. Thanks Anne!
Photographs facilitate
grieving by:
• Making their
baby’s life and death real for them--a significant issue with perinatal
death and an acknowledgement so important for parents;
• validating
their feelings, both at the time of their baby’s death and up to the
present;
• being an affirmation
of parenthood;
• providing a
tangible record of their time with their baby, including cherished close-up
details of their baby's physical features and evidence of loving familial
bonds;
• allowing them to connect with the many feelings and memories that may
have gotten lost in the torrent of overwhelming grief at the time or in the
weeks since; offering
them an illustrated narrative of "their story" for themselves and
the loved ones they choose to share it with, fostering greater social support
and connection. (excerpt from ToddHochberg.com)
We strongly encourage
you to preserve as many memories as possible. It will aid in your healing later
in life. |
